Mind Map

A mind map is a diagram that displays information visually. You can create mind maps using pen and paper.  Before writing any paragraph or essay; it is useful to do mind mapping because it helps you to gather ideas in one page and in organised way. Whatever you use, the rules for creating a mind map are simple:

1) Write the subject in the centre of your paper.

2) Draw branches that point away from the centre. Each branch symbolises one thought or idea related to the subject. Use meaningful keywords to write these ideas onto the branches.

3) From each branch more ideas can branch off.

4) Use colours, icons and images whenever possible. These function as mental triggers and can help spark new ideas in you, which is important during brainstorming sessions.

Paragraph Writing

Good paragraphs begin with a topic sentence that briefly explains what the paragraph is about. Next come a few sentences for development and support, elaborating on the topic with more detail. Paragraphs end with a conclusion sentence that summarises the topic or presents one final piece of support to wrap up.

  • Find a Topic Sentence: It is the first sentence which is an introduction to the given topic. It gives the main idea of what the paragraph would be about.

  • Supporting details: These are the details that can be collected from various sources. It comprises information related to the topic that gives strong support to the main topic.

  • Closing sentence: It is the last sentence that ends the paragraph and restates the whole idea of the paragraph. It is basically the concluding sentence that gives the basic idea of the whole topic.
